Beyond Gold and Platinum: Mokume Gane
In many ways, end of precious metals as a jewellery can not take gold or platinum, but a little color tan cousin Iridium. With the possible exception of osmium (which is toxic and smell) is not the most rare radioactive elements in the earth's crust - several times more gold or platinum. It is all the more incorruptible chemical than the other two, is heavier (17% denser than gold and 6% dense as platinum), and is much more resistant to scratches to finish. It is also the mystique that most if not all of my Iridium comes from meteorite impacts, so it is extraterrestrial. Unfortunately, nobody has put forward a way to cooperate with him financially, mainly because of their absurd high melting point and fragility glassy. The first artisan to cope with Iridium certainly take the world by the tail. But in the meantime, it is a specialty metal that is equally interesting, if not more so-called victory Mokum (non-Koo-May GAH-nay), which is to link up to thirty alternating layers metal of a different colour; twisting, stretching, or otherwise distort the very resulting mass, then the sculpture in the rings and so there is a whirlwind riotously Agate or three as the end. Japanese metallurgical Denbei Shoami (1651-1728) invented Mokum win to make deals with ornamental samurai sword. The metals are used, among other things, silver, gold and various shades thereof, such as pink, white and green; shakudo (an alloy of copper 96% and 4% of gold which is currently developing a blue-black patina); kuromi-how (copper with a smidgen of arsenic); shibuichi (a rose copper and silver alloy) and titanium alloys and various Wolfram, who are May iron, nickel and molybdenum. The sandwich these teams, and heat to a temperature, a chemical eutectic appeal, it is hot enough to cause the atoms to mingle and jostle in the boundary layer, but not so great as to melt into a pile BLOB indiscriminately. It is certainly a great art and not something that everyone can succeed. Today is the best known Mokum winning captain seems Norio Tamagawa, whose family has worked in the field of nine generations. You can Google the same term to find some good sources, but one of the most visible and achievements are clearly James Binnion to http://www.mokume-gane.com/ http://www.mokume-gane.com In the 'previous article comes from the curious of the week on my site. http://www.curiousnotions.com http://www.curiousnotions.com
